New Homeowner

We contacted Carl Seville after he left his remodeling company about building our new house. While his reputation and references were outstanding, we were most impressed by his passion for making energy efficient, healthy homes.

Throughout the planning process, Carl advised us on ways to make our house more efficient and to keep our costs manageable through various design changes. He consistently offered us construction options to improve the homes efficiency, most of which we employed.  Most importantly, we took advantage of having a fully sealed building envelope, starting with the precast insulated foundation all the way to the insulated roofline. Other features we valued included the fluorescent and LED lighting, tankless water heaters, PEX piping, mastic duct sealing, and the dual flush toilets. Furthermore, the comprehensive recycling program was amazing -- from the house we demolished to the construction debris we generated during the building process. Carl even had the forethought to include elements that we could incorporate later as our budget allowed, such as the piping for a future grey water system and the structural planning for a vegetated roof! He also installed a TED Electronic Monitoring Device to help us keep tabs on our power usage. It has been a valuable tool in breaking a lot of wasteful habits.

Carl worked closely with us, as well as the trade contractors, to ensure a high quality, high performance house. He kept us fully informed of various decisions that were made throughout the project via regular meetings both on and off site and frequent email and phone contact. Many of our subcontractors commented on Carl’s ability to run a timely, organized job that allowed them to be proficient at their trade. 

We witnessed the final energy test out of our house and were very impressed. While the numbers didn’t mean so much to us, the end result is a comfortable, livable, energy efficient home that has exceeded our expectations..

We are extremely proud of our new home and sincerely appreciate the “green” features that were incorporated into its construction. While we were only somewhat interested in building “green” at the outset of this project, Carl’s enduring commitment to creating efficient, healthy homes caused us to make many of our decisions. If we were to build again, not only would we continue to incorporate these practices, we would employ Carl to direct us through the process.
